In summer time you can see some pretty interesting ships coming to Saint Malo. This one here is one of the most futuristic ones. It is the “Skat”, one of the biggest private yachts on the globe and it is owned by Charles Simonyi former Chief Architect of Microsoft.

I saw the “Skat” already last year in Saint Malo but there it laid in the smaller harbor area. This year it has a good place directly at the city walls.

As you can see it is pretty unique with its military color and shape. The upper part looks even a bit like a loft .

La Livresse is a little Café or Salon de Thé located in the Rue Georges Clemenceau, the main street of Saint Servan.

It is an old Boucherie and when you enter it the first time you feel like leaving this century behind you with the doorstep, arriving in an early 1900 french Café.

I can not say something about the quality of the dishes the owner and chef is serving for lunch but if they are only half as good as his pâtisseries it must be one of the best restaurants in the region. I definitely have to go there for lunch one day. But you absolutely need to pass a reservation if you want to have a table.

My favourite time for La Livresse is the afternoon. The menu changes everyday with at least two freshly homemade pâtisseries like different crumbles, scones, tartes etc. Just ask the chef: “Quelles pâtisseries servez-vous aujourd’hui?”.

What makes this little place so special besides its design and great bakery is the huge choice of magazines that are lying on the old bistrot tables. You have cooking and food magazines, interieur magazines, travel magazines, normal newspapers and so on. So you can nibble on your scones while reading a magazine. I love it. It’s like a little vacation from reality.

This time I chose the Molleux au Chocolat a gorgeous piece of chocolate cake that just melts in your mouth with a superbe chocolate sauce. With it I had my favourite drink, the Chocolat Maison with a light cinnamon taste.

What? I worked hard in the garden, I deserved it!

Welcome in "La Belle Epoque"

If you ever visit Saint Malo you have to go there. It is just a 15 mintute walk from Intra Muros and you can visit the city center of Saint Servan with its beautiful townhall and nice little shops when you are over there, too.

When I find some free time in the schedule I always enjoy driving up to the coast and spend a little while in Saint Malo.

Brittany has a special light which is appreciated  by many painters and also photographers. Some of the greatest Impressionists worked in the region. For picture taking early morning and late afternoon are the best times and I can say that I’m happy with the results of this day.

First, we went down the mole where you have a nice view over to the town of Dinard. On good days you can see the Cap Fréhel clearly.

We then made a little stroll through the inner city and ended up in a nice and oldfashioned tea room, well known for its chocolate specialities. So, I decided for a mouthwatering piece of Nougat de Montelimar. This is a town  in the South of France and famous for its nougat production. A beautiful piece of nougat filled with pistaccios and hazelnuts and covered with dark chocolate. And the real good nougat is not particularly sweet that only the cheap one. I wasn’t disappointed, it was gorgeous!

After that we continued walking towards the Chateau de Saint Malo and ended up at the Sillon beach enjoying the sundown and a magnificent look over the Channel and the Emerald Coast.

Beautiful evening in Saint Malo. Always great to climb the old stone city wall of Saint Malo and watch the sunset over the Channel.

Today was a really beautiful day. As I had some free time in the afternoon we decided to hop in the car and go up to the coast.

Le Sillon is still our favourite beach. Great for a walk in the sunshine and some fresh air.

This is the first post in my brand new private blog! I welcome you to my Brittany!

After I decided to use my domain www.kirstenwinkler.com for my professionel content I had to take a second decision. Do I keep on blogging about my daily life here in France, or not. Basically, do I have the time, or not?

After some weeks without sharing my experiences of my average days, I felt, that I am missing something. And as my friend did not use this domain up to now, I conquered it .

I am really happy about this step “back to the roots”.

Ok, enough blabla. Back to business .

Today we had sunshine here in Brittany. To benefit a bit of this rather rare occasion we decided to jump into the car and go up to the coast to our favourite walking beach in Saint Malo, Le Sillon.

When we arrived, the clouds were already covering up most of the sun but we took a walk anyway to get some fresh air and some fresh ideas.

After our walk we visited our favourite Café in Saint Servan for a hot chocolate and an apple crumble. Yummy!
