Kirsten’s life “en Bretagne”

Digging, digging, ...

Digging, digging, ...

Ouch! The first day in the garden after the winter is really the hardest. Did not now that the human body has so many muscles.

The weather here in Brittany is now stable for almost a week and everybody around me already started working in their gardens weeks ago. So we decided to get our lazy bones out in the sunshine and started with our kitchengarden v2.0 or little Holland, as we call it now ;) .

This means compared to last year’s first try of two Germans raised in Berlin between concrete and supermarkets we will take it more serious this year. Last year we did it more like “let’s plant it and see what comes out” and it worked already quite well. And your own veggies are SOOOOOO delicious! Really!

So, back to the roots. As we are Germans, we started planning this year’s garden because we want a maximum out of it this time. We bought two greenhouses and quadroupled the surface of our beds. More herbs and veggies will be planted and so on and so furth. I will keep you updated here, of course.

Today we started with “digging in the dirt”. We have a very heavy soil here with lots of clay in it, so we digged out big holes and put new garden soil in it. The potatoes did well in the “original” soil last year. So, we decided we will plant them there again. Only this year we will plant carrots, onions and garlic there, too.

Well, I am really done now. But happy, too. Gardening always gives me a kick. And I have to teach some lessons today, too ;) .

Tomorrow: planting the herbs.

À demain,
