Today was a great day here in Brittany. Sunny and hot. So we choose to take the afternoon off and go to Dinan two stop by at one of our favourite bakeries. We ordered two macarons, one raspberry and one pistaccio with Amarena cherries plus a Financier which is a soft butter cooky filled with salted caramel. Right across the street at the harbor of Dinan is a little garden where we sat down for a while, enjoyed the sunshine[...]

I thought to myself “Well, I did not write a post on my private blog for some days, so let’s do it tody.” But the shock hit me like a lightning. ONE MONTH without a post. Holy cow! A lot happened in the meanwhile. To start with let me show you some dishes from the last weeks. Enjoy and talk soon, NOT in a month this time. Promissed!
This is one of those recipes that are not planned this way. I wanted to bake a cake. Well, my friend told me that I wanted to bake a cake. So I said yes before checking the shelves if I had all the ingredients. On Sunday, I started and soon realized that I neither had baking powder nor yeast. Great. But fortunately we are not living in the middle ages anymore and there is wireless internet in the kitchen. So[...]
When I have enough time I like to bake my own bread. I takes about 3 1/2 hours but don’t worry, the real work in it is only about 15 minutes . For my basic bread I use: 400 g flour type 405 100 g fine semolina 1 package dry yeast 15 g sugar 15 g salt 330 ml tepid water You can simply double the ingredients if you would like to have more dough or use half of it[...]
Last week we decided to make some Muffins. Never made them before. I think we opened Pandora’s Biscuit Box now. They are sooo yummy! First we started with some Vanilla Muffins with Chocolate Chips. As you can see they decided to stay in their forms. No Muffin Heads! Well, next time: more backing powder . Ah, better. But they are not so soft and juicy as they should be. Not bad, but could be better. So: Google me an all[...]
Ok, family is back to Germany. Although it is always nice to have family around one thing is fact: you get nothing done. Therefore let me start with a review of this weekend. First we headed down to Rennes to visit IKEA. Of course we bought something. Will post about it because I think it is really handy. After that we went to our favourite Asia Shop and bought some fresh noodles, coriander, mini pak choi, soy bean sprouts and[...]
This is one of my favourite recipes especially since I have been living in Brittany which is famous for its seafood like oysters – huitres, lobsters – homards and scallops – coquilles Saint-Jacques. During the scallop season in winter to early spring I try to cook this dish at least once a month because nothing beats fresh scallops. The recipe itself comes from Jamie Oliver but I adapted it a bit over the years . I use red lentils because[...]
The ideal dish after a long working day, especially when you have to eat late again. For the salad I like a mixture of young leaves and herbs. The dressing is made of ginger, garlic, soy sauce, olive oil, sitchuan pepper, chili, fine chopped onions and cherry tomatoes. If wanted you can even make a warm salad out of it. Fry the duck filet slowly in a pan without adding any oil on the skin side which you cut in[...]
Pictures say more than thousand words. Enjoy! I watched this presentation a several times. Now I am hungry. Gotta go cooking now . Kirsten xx
