My new baby

If you are into cooking, like I am, you know that you need a darn good knife. Today I bought me a new one. A big one :)

Yes!

If you take a closer look at the blade, you see a nice pattern. This is Damascene Steel. Love it!

Lovely.

Lovely.

The knob is made of wood. Feels really nice and heavy in hand.

Looking good.

Really looking forward to use it this evening. Have a bison and a kangaroo steak in the fridge ;)

Yes, I know. Lets go on as if nothing happened ;)

Today was a great day here in Brittany. Sunny and hot. So we choose to take the afternoon off and go to Dinan two stop by at one of our favourite bakeries. We ordered two macarons, one raspberry and one pistaccio with Amarena cherries plus a Financier which is a soft butter cooky filled with salted caramel.

Right across the street at the harbor of Dinan is a little garden where we sat down for a while, enjoyed the sunshine and our pastries.

Have a look. Ain't the bridge just wonderful?

For tonight’s dinner I prepared some veggies out of our garden. I grilled two of our round courgettes and mixed them with cherry tomatoes, chili, salt, pepper, olive oil and some parmesan cheese. On top I laid some oak smoked duck breast from south west France, a real classic.

I think, they like each other :).

The wine we bought for this dinner was a revelation. You know people use to say that you should not choose a wine by it’s logo. Today we were on the search for a Vouvray, because Gary made us thirsty to get one on one of his last shows.
Unfortunately we did not find one but then we came across this wine from Gascogne.

One word: AWESOME!

One word: AWESOME!

It is called Les Palombieres which means ring doves. They seem to be quite popular in Gascony. The wine is 80% Colombard and 20% Ugni Blanc. When we opened the bottle it was like a pineapple explosion in the room. Good start!

The nose then changed towards citrus fruits. It really is well balanced, has a nice acidity and crispness. We really love this wine and give it a 94+.

Gary: you need to have some wines from Gascony on Winelibrary.tv!

Did I mention the bottle was 2.65 Euro? :O
